Overall, in over 3100 baseline bets , a Return on Investment/Profit on Turnover ("ROI") of around 6.6% is found in the selections at Betfair SP (Australia) and SP (Hong Kong). Some subscribers are happy with this edge and place all the bets as advised. However, those who wish to streamline their betting can review the results and filter out any types of bets which they consider to have little or no value. We have 3 potential strategies for this -
Strategy 1 - Filter out all bets where the price is under $10.
When betting to Betfair SP in Australia and SP in Hong Kong, it is more difficult to maintain a significant edge at shorter prices where the markets are deemed to be more efficient. One way to combat this is to filter out any bets which are not deemed to offer value.
If betting to Betfair SP, you can set minimum odds when placing the bet. In Hong Kong, where Betfair do not operate, markets are priced up on the day of the race and may be worth waiting for those markets to form before betting.
Since March 21, only betting on horses at $10 and over would increase the Return on Investment to around 24% on over 1800 bets.
Strategy 2 - Only bet on 2 and 3 Point selections.
The service is designed so that stronger bets are advised at higher stakes, with a range between 0.5 and 3 points. Only betting on 2 and 3 point bets will increase the Return on Investment and reduce the workloads. It may also be an option for those who do not wish to introduce the price filters advised in strategy 1. By only betting on 2 and 3 point selections, the ROI is increased to 20% on over 700 bets since March 21.
Strategy 3 - Betting on 2 and 3 Point Selections AND at prices over $10.
Although some subscribers maintain that filtering selections too much would lead to increased variance from reducing sample sizes, others are satisfied to pinpoint where they believe an edge of a particular service lies. For those in the latter camp, Strategy 3 is a combination of Strategies 1 and 2, where we only bet on 2 and 3 point selections, priced $10 and over. By applying these filters would reduce the number of bets to around 360 since March 21, and would increase ROI to around 68%.
These strategies are not exhaustive and with over 3000 live bets to analyse, subscribers are able to find their own angles from the selections. At The Edge Betting, we have considered reducing bet sizes and just releasing 'the best', but we have an appreciation that many bettors nowadays are analytical by nature and wish to tailor datasets to suit their own needs.
